Dassanayaka Yoga is the perfect place to come when you need to stop and take a moment
from the demands of your daily routine. This tranquil, friendly and unique studio is based in a
converted local milk bar, just moments away from bustling High Street, Northcote.

Our Studio

studio ext w

This is one of the more interesting yoga studios around. There is a strong base of dedicated members of all ages from the local community, but many travel from other neighbourhoods to take part in our regular classes, or to attend meditation and yoga workshop intensives. The warmly decorated studio offers a place to relax and focus on your yoga practice, unwinding to the trickle of the fountain, amongst Eastern statues and icons.

You can experience a candlelit night-time class to wind down for the evening, or an energy-generating morning class to boost your day. Take time in our spacious garden to admire the new growth and leave with a handful of homegrown veggies. You may even be rewarded with a gorgeous meal cooked by Channa (he's actually a master of Sri Lankan cuisine, who has dedicated his life to teaching yoga).

Our practice

D Yoga 0017

Dassanayaka Yoga suits people of all ages and fitness levels.

For those familiar with yoga posture styles, Dassanayaka Yoga typically adopts a blend of Vinyasa flow sequences and Hatha techniques of yoga. Bhakti methods are also incorporated. Other sessions focus on Yin Yoga and Qigong.

For those who are unfamiliar with yoga styles, our classes include both strength and flexibility postures with staged levels of advancement, where the breath and clarity of mind is always the focus.

Members can select from the casual yoga classes listed on our timetable to practise at their own pace in a non-competitive and supportive atmosphere.

Transcend your limitations and attain ultimate health for the body, mind and spirit.
– Channa Dassanayaka

Class Schedule

NOTICE: TIMETABLE CHANGES will apply from Monday 27th October to Sunday 9th November, while Channa is away in Bali to host the retreat.
View the Temporary Timetable for these dates here

While Channa is away, this is a chance to learn from Channa's valued yoga associates who develop different aspects of practice within our studio. Gaye's classes are an opportunity to focus on alignment, Manoj introduces the slower Yin Yoga practice and Rinpoche takes his unique Qi Gong classes. Together with Apollo, Danielle and Guilia, these teachers design their classes to suit all levels.

We offer you classes in yoga, meditation and qigong. We also offer yoga for the special child, holistic energy healing, and remedial & ayurvedic massage. All classes are 60 minutes - bookings not required.
