For over fifteen years, 58 Bastings Street has been a home, a gathering place, and a space of refuge for so many.

Channa has generously opened up his home to the community with the service of teaching and an indescribable generosity. Now as the studio slowly prepares to move to its new home a few streets away, Channa is currently accessible through the profound healing yoga and meditation class he provides six days a week.

We will keep you updated regarding the move, which requires a lot of detailed planning, fundraising and effort. We are creating a truly exceptional and enduring new space. The move will allow the expansion of Channa’s teachings to the wider community, and deepen the connections between all of us. Our Studio

This is one of the more interesting yoga studios around. There is a strong base of dedicated members of all ages from the local community, but many travel from other neighbourhoods to take part in our regular classes, or to attend meditation and yoga workshop intensives. The warmly decorated studio offers a place to relax and focus on your yoga practice, unwinding to the trickle of the fountain, amongst Eastern statues and icons.

You can experience a candlelit night-time class to wind down for the evening, or an energy-generating morning class to boost your day. Take time in our spacious garden to admire the new growth and leave with a handful of homegrown veggies. You may even be able to taste one of his amazing home cooked meals, he prepares take home packs weekly so keep an eye out in the office for the fresh, healthy, gourmet packs. (He's actually a master of Sri Lankan cuisine, who has dedicated his life to teaching yoga).

Our practice

Dassanayaka Yoga suits people of all ages and fitness levels.

For those familiar with yoga posture styles, Dassanayaka Yoga typically adopts a blend of Vinyasa flow sequences and Hatha techniques of yoga. Bhakti methods are also incorporated. Other sessions can focus on Yin Yoga.

For those who are unfamiliar with yoga styles, our classes include both strength and flexibility postures with staged levels of advancement, where the breath and clarity of mind is always the focus.

Members can select from the casual yoga classes listed on our timetable to practise at their own pace in a non-competitive and supportive atmosphere.

Channa Class:

Channa Dassanayaka class: A suitable class for any Yoga Student or someone looking to practice Meditation (All beginners welcome). Channa’s classes incorporate a very healing Vinyasa flow with Meditation throughout the entire class. He brings us back to the breath with a mindful practice that connect us to all parts of the physical body with a new and healing experience in every class. Please arrive 5 -10mins early to secure a mat as classes are very popular.

D Yoga Class::

D Yoga Class: (Dassanayaka Yoga Class)All teachers being welcomed into the timetable have studied and are studying advanced teacher training through Guidance and wisdom being handed down from Channa. Each teacher will bring their own elements to the practice. With the Nurturing tools from Channa’s yogic and worldly wisdom of depth being taught. Our teachers are holding the space for growth. This will allow the teachings and community to access and learn the purest form of true yoga practice, through all of our advanced teachers. This allowing all teachers to blossom in their own timing with guidance and support from Channa at all times.

Channa Meditation Class::

Channa Meditation Class: A suitable class for any Meditation student (Beginners welcome). Channa’s classes have a very healing aspect which experiencing will give enormous amounts of relief from stress and anxiety from the fast paced worldly matters we are witnessing. A master of meditation is a humble explanation. With meditation and Yoga nidra being an option depending on the balance of the class and Channa will be guided into. Please arrive 5 -10mins early to secure a mat as classes are very popular OR book in advance on our online booking system.

Beginners yoga with Gaye:

Gaye Britt's Beginners yoga, An introductory class for people who are new to yoga and/or meditation and who may not be flexible.

Yin Yoga:

Yin Yoga is the balancing practice for yang style of yoga It is not intended for the muscles. Yin practice is trying to access the deeper tissues such as the connective tissue and fascia and many of the postures focus on areas that encompass a joint (hips, sacrum, and spine).

Private:

Individualised private yoga, meditation and qigong classes. Specific attention is given to personal limitations and goals.

All classes are a minimum 60 minutes. Please enter through the house door. Enjoy a glass of filtered water or take a mat to unwind before the class. PARKING When parking close to the intersection on Andrew Street, please be aware that parking along the white line road markings is not legal.

$50 Starter Package

*Access to 5 classes for $50 for your first month at the studio. For people new to Dassanayaka Yoga. (*You have one month expiry to use the 5 classes)
